Internal medicine is a veterinary specialty that deals with diagnosing, treating, and managing complex or chronic illnesses that affect the internal systems of animals. These systems include the gastrointestinal, respiratory, endocrine, urinary, immune, and hematologic systems, among others. Veterinary internists are often consulted for cases that are beyond the scope of general veterinary care or when symptoms are difficult to pinpoint.
