Endoscopy is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure that utilizes a flexible or rigid camera to visualize and access some internal structures of animals without the need for surgical incisions. It allows our specialists to examine and treat various areas of the body, including the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory system, urinary system, and more. There are different types of endoscopy used in veterinary medicine, including: Gastrointestinal endoscopy, which is used to evaluate the esophagus, stomach, and intestines, rhinoscopy which is used to evaluate the nose, bronchoscopy which evaluates the larynx, trachea, and lower airways, and cystoscopy which can evaluate the vagina, urethra, and urinary bladder. It is important to note that endoscopy requires specialized training, equipment, and expertise. Not all veterinary clinics or hospitals offer endoscopy services. If your pet requires an endoscopic procedure, your primary veterinarian will refer you to a specialist who has specific experience in endoscopy and a specialized facility equipped to perform these procedures.
